100 conflict child victims receive help

One hundred conflict-affected children of Myagdi have received school scholarship and relief materials.

The peace fund under the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction distributed the relief and scholarship through the district Child Welfare Committee as part of the programme to rehabilitate and reintegrate children victimised by the decade-long Maoist insurgency.

The then CPN (Maoist) started the armed rebellion on 13 February 1996 which ended with the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord on November 21, 2006.

District Child Rights Officer Bithu Acharya said that of the beneficiaries, school scholarships worth Rs 5,000 each were provided to 95 children, three others received job offers, and two have been provided with medical treatment.

A meeting of the concerned authority in the district also decided to help relatives or guardians providing care to the children victimised by the conflict in income generation.
