Siraha, December 23:

Scuffle among jailbirds at the Siraha jail led to 11 of them getting injured last night.

Jail birds Charan Thapa, Babu Lama, Nayan Lama, Rana Bahadur Singh, Ram Bahadur BK , Amar Dangol and Lal Bahadur Subedi who were transferred from Kathmandu to the jail recently were hurt, acting chief at Siraha jail Bindeshwor Yadav said, adding, jailbirds Kanchha Giri, Man Bahadur Limbu, Santosh Karki, Deep Thapa, Subash Lama and Kumar Tamang were also hurt.

Five jailbirds Charan, Babu Lama, Nayan Lama, Rana Bahadur and Ram Bahadur who were critically injured are undergoing treatment in the Siraha District Hospital and the others are undergoing treatment in the jail, the jail administration said.

Other jailbirds started attacking when those recently transferred from Kathmandu started having illegal drugs and alcoholic drink in the jail at 2 am, a security guard, Seti Lal Yadav said.

“Marijuana was seized from the jailbirds on Saturday,” a policeman deployed in the jail, Genesh Parajuli said, adding, the jailbirds scuffled over the issue of illegal drugs.

The jailbirds sustained injury on their heads and the legs of some of them have been broken in the scuffle that lasted for two hours, the jail administration said.

Four jailbirds were also critically hurt over the issue of drug on Friday morning, a victim prisoner Shiv Narayan Pandit said.
