Nawalparasi, February 16:

At least 11 persons were killed and 19 others sustained injuries in separate road mishaps across the nation in the past 24 hours.

Five people were killed and one was hurt in two separate accidents in Nawalparasi district today. Three people were killed and one was hurt when a Butwal-bound truck turned turtle at Daunne, the police said. The vehicle was coming from Narayangarh. Two of the victims have been identified as Devi Kandel, 21 and Binu Tamang, 20, of Dumkibas-6. The identity of the other deceased is yet to be ascertained, the police added.

In another incident, Ramita Chaudhari, 11, of Kerwani-8 in Rupandehi district, was

killed today when a truck hit her at Jyamire along the East-West Highway.

Gomati Bhurtel, 17, of Dibyapuri-6, died today when she fell off a tractor, which was going to Dumkauli from Jhankre.

In Morang, two persons died on the spot and six others were injured when a Panchthar-bound van, which was ferrying revellers to a wedding party, met with an accident at Kolbung along the Mechi Highway, the police said.

The groom’s father and sister - Uma Nath Dahal and Kamala Dahal, respectively - succumbed to their injuries. Six others, including the groom Narendra Dahal, of Bayerban-9, were hurt. The injured are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.

In Mahottari, Anchala Ray, 7, of Khairabanni-3, died when an Indian vehicle mowed her down.

In Dang, two persons were killed and 10 other were injured when a Lamahi-bound bus met with an accident at Chaupatta today. The vehicle was going to Ghorahi.

One of the victims has been identified as Chhabi Bhandari of Shitalpur, the police said. The injured are undergoing treatment in various local hospitals.

In another incident, Maghi Kami, 47, of Rajapur, was run over by a vehicle at Damodar Chowk in Ghorahi last night. Kami died on the way to hospital, the police said.

In Bhojpur, two persons -Bir Bahadur Rai and Sirjana Rai of Chambi-9 - were injured today when a tractor overturned. The duo has been admitted to Bhojpur District Hospital.
