17-year-old girl gang-raped in Rautahat: Police

RAUTAHAT: A 17-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped in Gujra Municipality-2 of Rautahat district on Sunday night.

According to Chandrapur-based Area Police Office (APO), three youths allegedly gang-raped the girl who was returning home after attending a fair in Manaharwa area of the Municipality, on Sunday evening.

The rape incident came to light after the victim's relatives lodged FIR against the youths allegedly involved in the incident.

The complaint states that a neighbour of the teenage girl, who was also attending fair on Sunday, had promised to give her a lift to her home on his motorcycle. But instead, the neighbour allegedly took the girl to a local canal and raped her on the levee of the canal along with his two other friends, informed police.

Police quoted the rape victim as saying that after the incident took place in the canal, her neighbour was further taking her towards jungle in the north on his motorcycle saying that he would buy her clothes in Chandrapur. The victim said she had to bite the motorcycle rider's arm to stop the two-wheeler and to ask for help when they were near a human settlement. Subsequently, the youths fled the scene, the victim added in the statement, said police.

Police have reportedly identified the perpetrators who are at large.

Meanwhile, police have taken the statement of the rape victim and the search is on for the alleged perpetrators, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yuvaraj Khadka at the APO.
