2 hurt as bomb explodes targeting ward chair's house in Damak

DAMAK: An unidentified group detonated a bomb at the house of Ward Chairperson of Damak Municipality-7 in Jhapa district on Sunday night.

In the blast, targeted at the house of the ward chair, Bhim Poudel, two persons Semu Rai and Tilochan Pokhrel were injured on their legs and hands by the shrapnel. The house is some 500 metres  to the east of the Area Police Office, Damak.

Both injured were guests at the neighbouring house when the explosion occurred, according to police. They have been undergoing treatment at the Damak-based Lifeline Hospital, where Rai is a staff member.

Police have started an investigation into the powerful explosion that rocked the area and said that the perpetrators behind the incident are yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Netra Bikram Chand (Biplav) led Communist Party of Nepal issued a press release warning those involved in the eviction of squatters in the disputed market area of Damak, including ward chair Poudel and Mayor Romnath Oli.
