2 killed, 16 hurt in mishaps

Nawalparasi, November 24:

One person was killed and 16 were injured in separate road mishaps in Nawalparasi and Bara districts within the past 24 hours.

Seven persons were hurt when a bus (Na 2 Kha 9545) heading to Sindhuli from Kathmandu collided with a truck at Neejgarh this morning, the Bara District Police Office said. Of the injured, Rakesh Shrestha, Tara Bahadur Ghising and Deepesh Acharya are being treated at the Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, while other injured Amar Majhi, Ramu Shrestha, Jeevan Lama and Bharat Khadka returned home after treatment in a clinic, the police office said.

In another incident, one Gopal Poudel, 44, of Mukundapur-8 was killed last night when a vehicle hit him at Gaidakot along the Mahendra Highway, the Kawasoti Area Police Office said.

Meanwhile, nine persons were injured last night when a jeep heading to Kathmandu from Dang district turned turtle near a jungle at Kawasoti, the police said. Dhundiraj Kafle, Uttam Hamal, Purna Bahadur Thapa, Dan Dev, Sushil Bhandari, Gopal Basnet and Chitra Bahadur DC, who were injured in the mishap, have been undergoing treatment at the Bharatpur Medical College in Chitwan.

Among the injured, Bishwonath Pokhrel died on the way to hospital this evening, police said.

A report from Rupandehi said relatives and locals of Purnabhadra Wagle, who died in a road accident, obstructed traffic in Butwal bazaar today demanding compensation to the victims’ family.

Wagle, a resident of Jiraiya Village Development Committee-1, died on the spot when his bike collided with a truck, said the Butwal Area Police Office.

Students and employees of Butwal technical institute, including Wagle’s relatives, blocked the road in Butwal this afternoon. Wagle was the accountant at the institute.
