2 killed, 25 injured in Siraha bus-truck collision

SIRAHA: At least two persons died and 25 others sustained injuries when the bus they were travelling on collided with a truck along the East-West Highway in Karjanha Municipality of Siraha district on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as bus driver Hari Paheli (35) of Bhojpur district and Madan Upreti (40) of Jhapa district.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukadev Khanal at Area Police Office, Mirchaiya, the incident occurred when the bus (Na 8 Kha 982) en route from Jhapa to Kathmandu collided head-on with the truck (Na 3 Kha 4264) coming from the west at Prayagpur, killing Paheli on the spot and injuring 26 others.

Injured Upreti breathed his last during the course of treatment at Mirchaiya-based health facility, informed DSP Khanal.

Those whose sustained minor injuries are receiving treatment at a local health facility while 10 critically injured persons have been referred to Biratnagar and Dharan for further treatment, said police.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway.
