2 killed, 3 injured in Makawanpur car accident

KATHMANDU: At least two persons died and three others sustained critical injuries when a car they were travelling on met with an accident at Jurekhet in Bhimphedi VDC of Makawanpur district on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Sharad Baidya (50) and Anuja Shrestha (40) of Kathmandu. It has been learned that they are brother and sister.

Police said that car driver Deepak Bhujel (37) of Pipalsar-2, Nuwakot district, Deepak Shrestha (48) of Jyatha-30, Kathmandu and Shrestha's 10-year-old daughter Araja were injured in the incident.

According to the Area Police Office, Bhimphedi, the incident occurred when the ill-fated car (Ba 3 Cha 9289) heading towards Hetaunda from Kathmandu skidded off the road and fell some 500 metres down the road at around 10 am today.

Police said that the injured are receiving treatment at a hospital in Hetaunda.

The reason behind the accident is yet to be established.
