2 killed in Rautahat fire, bike accident

RAUTAHAT: Two people were killed in a fire and a bike accident in Rautahat on Wednesday.

A 70-year-old woman died after a fire broke out at the house of Raj Kishor Jha in Mahadevpati Tole of Gaur Municipality-4 yesteday night.

According to the District Police Office (DPO), Rautahat, the deceased has been identified as Adhyadevi, mother of Raj Kishor.

Police informed that the fire was sparked from a kerosene lamp that the elderly woman lit during the loadshedding hours.

DSP Rajendra Pokharel of the DPO said that Adhyadevi died on the spot due to burn injuries.

The incident occurred when other members of the family were sleeping.

Though police personnel deployed from the Mahadevpati Police Post and locals doused the fire, they could not save the life of Adhyadevi.

Similarly, property worth around Rs 100,000 was reduced to ashes when a fire broke out at the house of Ram Chandra Yadav at Haraiya Tole of Samanpur VDC-8, Rautahat.

According to the Area Police Office, Samanpur, the incident occurred from a fire made to repel mosquoties at around 10 pm yesterday.

Various gold ornaments, cash and clothes among other goods were destroyed in the fire, police said.

The fire was taken under contol with the help of security personnel and locals after one hour.

Likewise, a pillion rider died after a biker lost control over his bike at Bahuarba Chok in Rautahat.

The deceased has been identified as Taimul Nesa (65) of Jayanagar VDC-9.

The tragedy occurred when the over speeding bus (Na 5 Kha 3263) heading towards Chandranigahapur from Gaur tried to overtake the Indian registration number plate two-wheeler (B R 30 K), police said.

Police said that they have arrested the biker and bus driver for investigation.

Police informed that the bodies of Adhyadevi and Nesa have been handed over to their respective families after conducting postmortem at the District Hospital, Gaur today.
