2 arrested with 1 kg undeclared gold in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: Police on Thursday night arrested two persons in possession of one kilogram undeclared gold in Rautahat district. They were travelling by a vehicle with an Indian number plate (BR-05-PA-0912).

The arrested have been identified as Dinanath Gupta and Saroj Raya Yadav of Gaur Municipality-5 and 7 in the district respectively.

Acting on a tip off, a team deployed from the Rautahat District Police Office intercepted the vehicle and seized the gold worth Rs 4 million 6 thousand during a security check, at Bamnahar Chok at around 1:00 am today, according to the Superintendent of Police Yagya Binod Pokharel at the DPO. The vehicle was returning to India from Kathmandu, SP Pokharel added.

It is yet to ascertain the purpose of transferring such a huge amount of gold, said SP Pokharel.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and carried out the investigation into the case.

The gold racketeers would be paraded along with the details of the investigation organising a press meet later here today, police informed.

The incident has verified the continuation of gold smuggling in Nepal near Indian border areas.

Police have claimed that the organised racketeers smuggle gold across the border into the Indian market through the main transit points from various regions in Nepal.
