200 Dalit teachers fired in Dailekh
Dailekh, January 4:
About 200 teachers of different schools in Dailekh district under relief quotas are on agitation to fulfil their eight-point demand.
The agitating teachers organised a rally in district headquarters Dailekh bazaar today and handed over a memorandum to the district administration office to forward it to the Prime Minister.
“We will organise phase-wise agitation from tomorrow if our demands are not addressed,” said Jagat Shahi, chairman of Relief Teacher Struggle Committee.
Meanwhile, padlocked Bhagwati Lower Secondary School in Katti VDC 1, has not been lifted yet.
The school was locked by the dalit students and their guardians blaming the school management committee for referring to sack two dalit teachers — Lal Bahadur BK and Nanda Bahadur BK.
“We locked the school after the school management committee and the headmaster referred the to DEO to sack the teachers just because they were dalits,” president of Dalit Network Ram Bahadur Nepali told this daily.
The dalits have said that the lockout would not be lifted until the teachers were re-appointed under the relief quotas.
