Over 200 houses inundated in Chitwan

CHITWAN: Floods caused by incessant rainfall for the past two days have inundated around two hundred houses in Madi Municipality of Chitwan district.

The floodwater from Riukhola has submerged the houses and Area Police Office, Area Administration Office, Baghauda Hospital including other government offices.

Police had issued flood warning after the discharge of Riukhola reached to 5.10 cusec (cubic metre/sec), at around midnight, subsequently, the locals moved to the safety, according to Superintendent of Police Deepak Thapa at the Chitwan District Police Office.

The ward no. 1,2,4,6 has been completely submerged by floodwater while ward no. 3 and 4 are partly submerged.

The vehicular movement along the Madi-Thori Postal Road has been disrupted after a bridge over Chitai River tilted to one side.

Likewise, a bridge over Dangre River, that connects Baruwa Bazaar with Lakshmuniya have been damaged, disrupting the transportation.

No human casualties have been reported, informed police.

Meanwhile, squad from Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and Red Cross workers together with locals and seven elelphants from Chitwan National Park have been mobilised in the rescue operation in the flood-hit areas.

It has been learnt that the Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhatta, SP Thapa together with additional security personnel have left for the incident site to back up the rescue team.
