One held in Saptari police official's murder

RAJBIRAJ: Police said on Monday that they have arrested a man on suspicion of his involvement in the murder of Sub-Inspector Ramesh Subba in Saptari. The suspect has been identified as Ashok Kumar Yadav of Jhutaki-7, Saptari.

Two motorcycle-borne assailants had fatally shot at the police official at Nargho in the evening of January 4, and fled the site.

The suspect was apprehended along with the two-wheeler used in the attack, according to Inspector Suraj Khadka.

Yadav was presented before the District Court and remanded in custody for further interrogation.

Without naming them, police said a manhunt is on to nab other suspects also.

Critically injured in the incident, Subba was rushed to the District Hospital for treatment. He breathed his last while being rushed to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

Jayakrishna Goit, commander of an underground armed outfit Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha, had claimed the responsibility of attack.

Meanwhile, locals have claimed that the arrested youth is innocent.

Organising a press meet today, they claimed that Yadav had returned home from foreign job recently and was working a manpower agent.
