24 employees locked up, freed

The workers of Curex Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, today locked up two dozen employees, including its general manager, for four hours on the allegation that the the management has not paid attention to their demands.

They were freed at 8:30 pm on the condition that the talks will be held between the agitating workers and company management, said Kathmandu district police office.

The company workers locked up general manager Dr Shantaraj Joshi, administrator Bishnu Bahadur Shrestha, account head Kiran Shah, store-in-charge Pradip Mahato, manager of the company’s central office Dinesh Poudel, Arun Singh.

The workers has put forward their charter of five demands, including that permanent status should be given to those workers who have worked over two years, the daily allowance of Rs 5 be increased to Rs 10, and a raise in dearness allowance.

The production will be disrupted till the demands are fulfilled, said Niraj Singh, a member of agitation coordination committee.

General manager of the company, Dr Joshi said the problem will be sorted out through talks tomorrow. The company has 116 workers and employees.
