NUWAKOT: Three persons died in a sand mound collapse in Khadga Bhanjyang village of Nuwakot district on Thursday.

Bikas Tamang aka Gangasing (35) and Prakash Tamang (18) from Dangsing-4 and Shankar Rai (22) from Khadga Bhanjyang-9 were killed, DSP Rishiram Kandel at the District Police Office informed.

Bikas was a driver of a minitruck (Ba 3 Kha 9709) while Prakash was his assistant. Likewise, Rai was a worker helping the Tamang duo to load sand onto the truck at around 12 pm today.

A tall sand mound had collapsed over them while they were loading sand onto the truck from the sand mine, according to Kandel.

A rescue team had reached the incident site immediately, but it could not save them.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent to the Trishuli-based District Hospital.

The vehicle is in police custody.

Further investigation is underway.
