30 to 57 pc votes cast till noon in 34 districts: EC

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission of Nepal said 30 to 57 per cent voters cast their ballot in 34 districts in the elections being held today in as many as 281 local levels till 12 pm.

Voter turnout in the three districts in the Kathmandu Valley remained 40 to 45 per cent till this noon, while Rasuwa, Chitwan, Tanahun, Lamjung, Kaski, Manang, Mustang, Parbat, Dolpa, Dailekh and Surkhet witnessed more than half of the voters in the respective districts casting ballot in the first six hours of voting.

14. Gorkha: 40 per cent

21. Parbat: 50 per cent

22. Syangja: 45 per cent

23. Myagdi: 40 per cent

24. Baglung: 40 per cent

25. Nawalparasi: 42 per cent

26. Salyan: 45 per cent

27. Dolpa: 55 per cent

28. Jumla: 35 per cent

29. Mugu: 35 per cent

33. Surkhet: 50 per cent

34. Rukum: 45 per cent

Voting started at 7 am and will continue till the voters who enter the polling stations by 5 pm, according to the Election Commission.

30 pc votes cast in first four hours

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission said around 30 per cent voters have cast ballot in the local level elections in 34 districts till 11 am today. The voting started at 7 am.

Elections are being conducted in a peaceful manner so far, EC's Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma said.

Voting had not started till 11 am in Bhankundebensi of Kavre where an unidentified person was shot dead last night.

The voting is likely to begin soon, Sharma informed.

Voters who reach the polling stations by 5 pm will be allowed to cast their votes.

A total number of 283 local levels, including four metropolitan cities,  one sub-metropolitan city,  92 municipalities and 186 rural municipalities will elect their representatives.
