32 killed, 25 missing, 35,000 displaced in Eastern region floods

KATHMANDU: As many as 32 persons were killed and 25 persons went missing in the monsoon rain triggered floods in eastern region in the past four days.

More than 35,000 families have been displaced in the incident so far.

Among the districts, Sunsari has been the most affected one, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Ramesh Bhattarai, Chief at Eastern Regional Polcie Office in Biratnagar.

Bodies were even collected from Birpur area of India after the flood swept them away, added Bhattarai.

The Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Polcie Force personnel are using helicopters, motorboats, boats, among others to rescue the floods and landslides victims.

More than 2000 victims were rescued alive, informed Bhattarai.

The rescue operation is ongoing in the floods and landslides affected areas.
