38 govt staffers pack up after threats from JTMM-J

Threats issued by the Jwala Singh-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM-J) today caused the displacement of 38 employees posted in the east Tarai.

Eighteen employees of government offices in Siraha, 17 of offices in Morang and three employees of government offices in Siraha left following the threats.

“Seventeen secretaries of VDCs in Morang left the villages after cadres of the JTMM-J threatened to kill them if they did not provide Rs 2 lakh in donations,” the secretary of Rangeli VDC in Morang Hari Pokhrel said.

Secretary of Mahadeva VDC, Prem Ghimire, Keshraj Rajbanshi, of Jhurkiya VDC, Prakash Koirala, of Badardanga VDC, Mitralal Kattel, of Diniya VDC, Laxmi Rajbanshi, of Amgachhi VDC, Hari Prasad Pokhrel, of Rangeli VDC, Ram Kumar Puri, of Sorabhog VDC, Bhola Ghimire, of Babiyabirta VDC, Krishna Prasad Regmi, of Dadarbaiya VDC, Kumar Khadka, of Thalaha VDC, Bhojraj Joshi, of Bhaudaha VDC, Lekhraj Shah, of Kadmaha VDC, Laxmi Prasad Singh, of Nocha VDC, among others, have been displaced.

Morang CDO Madhav Regmi today urged government employees to call for security arrangements prior to their visits to the villages.

In Siraha, chief of the zonal transport office Jeevan Acharya, administrative officer of the Area Administration Office Gurudatta Dhakal, chief of the Area Postal Office Netraraj Khatri, chief of the Inland Revenue Office Jaya Bahadur Bhandari, among others, left their offices.

“Government officials have been living under terror. It is difficult to work in the district,” Siraha CDO Bal Krishna Panthi said. Due to terror, the officials are taking leave for some days, Regmi said.

Due to the threat, Rajan Khadka, of the Rajbiraj-based Land Conservation Office, Ganesh Sapkota, of district government lawyers’ office and Sudip Pokhrel of district court went to their houses in Gaighat today.

Chief district officer of Saptari Himnidhi Dawadi, however, said, “The officials have not been displaced; they are on home leave.”
