GAIGHAT: Police in Udayapur district on Sunday night arrested four youths on the charge of kidnapping and gang-raping a 35-year-old woman.

The arrested have been identified as Amit Gupta (24), Sandesh Gupta (25) and Vivek Sah (25) of Lahan Municipality-7, and Ritesh Kumar Sah (25) of Mirchaiya Municipality, all in Siraha district.

The youths had allegedly kidnapped the woman from Lahan Bazaar on Sunday evening and took her to Lalpatta by a Scorpio jeep (Ba 14 Cha 6817) inside which they gang-raped her after midnight.

A patrol team deployed from Lalpatta-based police post came across the vehicle while the incident was taking place, nabbed the perpetrators and immediately took the situation under control, at around 2:00 am today, according to the District Police Office, Udayapur.

The rape victim has made a statement to the DPO that she was abducted by the youths from Lahan at around 8:00 pm the day before, and that they were under the influence of drugs.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicle and carried on with the investigation, Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Bhatta informed.
