The RNA’s military court has demoted four soldiers and slapped a three-month jail term on each of them on charge of sexual offence during their service in UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Also, two other soldiers, who were also serving in Congo, have been punished for trespassing a restricted area and drinking alcohol there. “Two Warrant Officers and a Sergeant have been demoted and sent for a 3- month jail for their involvement in sexual offence in Congo,” said the RNA spokesperson, Brig Gen Dipak Gurung, at a press meet today. He said, the court slapped 3-month jail and forfeiting of grade for a year on a Private. Responding to a question on increased Maoist activities in the Valley, Gurung said: “We have found that they are continuously trying to destablise the Valley’s security, but forces have been successful in neutralising their attempt.”
