425 patients undergo kidney transplant
BHAKTAPUR: Shahid Dharma Bhakta National Transplant Centre has informed that it has successfully completed kidney transplantation on 425 patients so far.
Sharing the information at the sixth anniversary function of the Centre on Tuesday, its Executive Director Dr Pukar Chandra Shresthasaid that the Centre, which had launched kidney transplant service from January 19, 2013, had undertaken 13 transplants in the first year.
"Only 13 kidney transplant cases were handled in the beginning. It was 132 last year and it has increased to 132 in eight months this year. Till date, kidney transplantation has been successfully performed on 425 patients," informed Dr Shrestha.
Likewise, this year liver transplantation was performed on two patients. The Centre has provided services to 35,000 patients so far.
"We have gained 98 per cent success in kidney transplantation. This is outstanding success in the world," Dr Shrestha further shared that the Centre has been providing dialysis services to 30,000 patients every year.
