RAJBIRAJ: Around 500 buffaloes were sacrificed in Kankalini Temple in Bhardaha of Saptari district on Friday on the occasion of Navami, the ninth day of Dashain.
The ritual slaughter of altogether 493 buffaloes and around 12,000 billy goats took place to appease the Goddess Durga whose nine different forms are worshipped during the Bada Dashain festival.
A huge crowd of local devotees as well as those from neighbouring Indian towns also made the sacrifices on the ceremony, according to the Priest of the Temple, Mukunjaya Jha.
It is believed that by making animal sacrifices, the wishes of the devotees get fulfilled.
