500 farmers in line for land ownership certificates

Kavre, August 24

As many as 500 peasant families of Bhumlutar and Phalate VDCs are supposed to obtain land ownership certificates this fiscal after four decades in Kavre.

Former State Minister of Labour Govinda Upreti of the locality said that they were deprived of the ownership certificate due to border dispute between the VDCs when Pipaltar VDC split in 1975. Locals of the VDCs had a row over demarcation of the boundary of cultivable land in the VDCs. The demarcating team from survey office had returned without settling the boundary issue due to disputes among the locals then. Upreti had snatched field book from the team himself.

Phalate leaders including late Shiva Raj Kharel, late Khadga Raj Kharel, late Pashupatinath Upreti and Govinda Upreti of Bhumlutar had a row for more than a decade over land demarcation. However, Bhumlutar locals had appealed to the authority for the land ownership certificate with the initiative of Upreti.

Dept of Land Survey has been preparing to hand over the certificates to owners in coordination with district survey office, within this fiscal. District Survey Office Kavre Chief Magnu Datta said that a team from the office had been deployed to collect the field report to settle the prolonged dispute since January this year. Datta said that preparation of land ownership certificates of as many as 102 families had been completed so far.
