6 women rescued from trafficker's clutches in Nawalparasi

NAWALPARASI: As many as six women who were reportedly being trafficked to Qatar via India were rescued from the Nepal-India border of Maheshpur in Nawalparasi district on Sunday.

A team of Maiti Nepal, an anti-trafficking non-government organisation, rescued the women who had believed in an assurance from a man called Ramu that he would take them to Qatar via New Delhi of India for a lucrative job.

Maiti Nepal official Maya Chhetri said two of the rescued women were from Nawalparasi district while others were from Chitwan, Sindhuli, Dhading and Tanahun districts.

The alleged trafficker is on the run.

While two women from Nawalaparasi were handed over to their families, procedures are underway to send others home after a counselling, according to Chhetri.
