KATHMANDU: The 7 Summit Foundation today handed over a cheque of USD 31,981 to Miss World Nepal 2019 Anushka Shrestha to provide educational and livelihood support to a remote village of Sindhupalchok district.
Amidst a function, advisor to the 7SF Board Shyam Tamang and 7SF’s general secretary Tukti Sherpa handed over the fund which was collected from the different fundraising events held recently in the United States.
7SF’s chairman AC Sherpa, who is also an honorary consul for Seattle in Washington State, organised different fundraising events in Seattle, Colorado, San Francisco and Washington DC by inviting Shrestha as the Miss World Nepal would represent Nepal at Miss World 2019 pageant to be held in the ExCeL London, United Kingdom in December.
“I have partnered with the 7SF to work with the people of Solsing area in Sindhupalchok for the ‘Beauty With a Purpose Project’,” she said, adding that the project aimed at creating a visible and sustainable improvement in the living standard of 140 families based in Solsing.
The fund provided by 7SF would be used to enable mothers to become income generators and able and willing to invest in their children’s’ education in Solsing area, she added. “This project aims at creating two strong changemakers in each family.” The focus of this project will also be to ensure not only isolated improvement of these two sectors but linking these developmental pillars, according to Shrestha.
Entrepreneur Mingmar Tamang said that the project would also provide accommodation scholarship so that the students could live near the high school and need not drop out. “To support enabling the mothers to become active income generators, we will be taking carpet weaving, stone cutting and brick making initiatives to begin with,” Tamang, a permanent resident of Solsing, said.
Chairman at the Hidden Treasure Gopal Kakshapati thanked 7SF’s chairman Sherpa and his team for their support to the project. “The 7SF’s support will be significant in making the project and Nepal’s representation at the international arena a success.”
Board advisor Tamang said the foundation would join hands with Shrestha to support needy people in the country in the coming days.
Being the Honorary consul for Seattle in Washington state, Sherpa had recently organised ‘Nepal-USA: Business Collaboration, Investment Opportunities and Visit Nepal 2020 consultative meeting’ in Redmond to explore the benefits of business operations in Nepal for both Nepali and American business interests. Sherpa had also served as deputy regional coordinator (Americas) for the Non-Resident Nepalis’ International Coordination Council.
