8 people killed in Pyuthan landslides

PYUTHAN: At least eight persons were killed in two separate incidents of landslide in Pyuthan district of western Nepal in the wee hours of Tuesday. The victims are members to two families.

Five members of a single family were buried to death when a landslide, triggered by incessant rainfall, hit their house in Neta of Rajwara-3, according to DSP Ranjit Rathore, Chief at the District Police Office.

The victims have been identified as Durga Bahadur Malla, his wife Sita Malla, and their daughters Sushila Malla, Srijana Malla and Rekha Malla.

Another landslide buried a house in Banglibang of Puja VDC-3, killing three members of a single family, DSP Rathore said.

Police said that Hom Bahadur Sunar (70), his wife and granddaughter were killed in the incident.

The incident site is 50 km drive from the district headquarters.

Locals are terrified after the fatal landslides, according to Chief District Officer (CDO) Janak Raj Pant.
