9 arrested for electricity pilferage in Lahan

LAHAN: As many as nine persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in power theft in Lahan of Siraha district on Thursday.

A joint team of the Lahan-based Nepal Electricity Authority Distribution Centre and Nepal Police detained them along with the equipment used for electricity theft. Those detained were collectively fined Rs 64,000.

They were arrested from various places of the district including Narghi, Badahari, said the NEA, Lahan, Chief Madhav Prasad Yadav.  19 irrigation motor pumps, a fan and an LED Television set were also confiscated from them, Yadav further said.

The NEA Lahan has tightened its monitoring in Lahan, which is facing 40.44 per cent of electricity leakage. The authorities had detained 19 persons for their alleged involvement in stealing electricity from the place last week.
