Absconding elderly brothers convicted of fraud sent to jail
KATHMANDU: Nepal Police's Central Investigation Bureau arrested two brothers -- Mohammad Anwar (69) and Mohammad Wasim (56) -- who were convicted of fraud by the Kathmandu District Court in January, from Nayabazaar of Kathmandu on Tuesday.
The duo had forged documents to inherit property from one Amila Bibi, who was not related to them by blood, claiming that she was their mother. They had presented fake documents to prove that two individuals -- Amila Bibi and Diwar Wojyu -- were the same person.
The duo had succeeded in transferring the ownership of a plot of land in Sangla VDC from Bibi's name after her death using the forged documents and sold it in November 2004.
Convicting them of fraud on January 18, 2016 in a decade old case, the Kathmandu District Court had slapped one year term and penalty of Rs 731,000 on each of them.
Police presented them to the Kathmandu District Court for the execution of its verdict. They have been now sent to the central jail, police said.
