Absence of docs affects treatment

Dhangadhi, July 8:

Absence of three senior doctors in Dhangadhi-based Seti Zonal Hospital has adversely affected the treatment procedure of patients suffering from several diseases.

Dr Ganesh Bahadur Singh, medical superintendent, went to Thailand for training on June 4

and Dr Bisan Singh Bohara, the only surgeon at the hospital, has been in Kathmandu for training since May 20, kharidar at the hospital, Dadhiram Acharya, said. Cardiology and chest expert Dr Bidhannidhi Poudel also went for training on July 4.

Patients who needed medical operation were forced to go to India, as surgeon Bohara is not in the hospital, patients said.

With no doctor in the hospital, the ultrasound service has also been halted. "I need ultrasound as I am suffering from stomach disease. I cannot afford to go to costly hospitals for the same," a patient from Udasipur VDC, Nandakala Khati said.

Many other patients like her are forced to return home without treatment.

The hospital has 18 posts of doctors, but only 13 are working here.

One of them said patients suffering from several diseases, including fever and typhoid, visit the hospital daily.
