Activists’ screening panel to monitor truce

Sindhupalchowk, November 4:

The Human Rights and Peace Society here has formed a monitoring committee to study cases of violation of human rights occurring during Maoist ceasefire period.

The committee was formed under the coordination of the chairman of the Sindhupalchowk chapter of the society, Yagya Prasad Dangal. Its members are Rudra Lochan Acharya, Yuvraj Puri, Pabitra Kumar Khadka, Tulsi Prasad Dangal, Keshav Lal Shrestha and Radha Shrestha, a society release issued today said.

According to the release, the committee will study cases of human rights violation by both the State and Maoists during the ceasefire and release its report. Coordinator Dangal said a committee team will leave for the Maoist-affected areas this week for the study. Earlier, the Peace Society and the Federation of Nepalese Journalists refused to participate in the monitoring committee formed under the coordination of the Associate Institution for Human Rights in district.
