‘Royal’ dropped from embassy board

NEW DELHI:

The Nepalese Embassy here dropped the word ‘Royal’ from its board today.

An official at the embassy said the change was made after it received a verbal direction from the foreign ministry to remove the word Royal from the signboard. Similar direction was given to the consulate general’s office in Calcutta, India, the official said.

Earlier, yesterday evening some Nepali migrant workers in Delhi had painted black on the word Royal on the signboard immediately after the historic declaration by the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy here remained open today despite the government’s decision to observe it a holiday to celebrate the endorsement of the historic declaration by the HoR as it failed to receive the holiday information on time.

“The decision to celebrate Friday as a holiday was not passed on to us on time”, an embassy official said.
