‘We won’t return all properties’

Rupandehi, December 17:

At a time when the Maoists

are being criticised for not implementing their commitment of returning the seized property

to the rightful owners, a top leader of the party today said all the seized property would not

be returned.

Speaking at the first anniversary celebration of Butwal-based Jagaran FM, CPN-Maoist’s secretariat member and Constituent Assembly member Top Bahadur Rayamajhi said all the land and property seized during the insurgency would not be returned.

The Maoists had seized thousands of bighas of land and property during the decade-long

insurgency. However, following strong criticism of political parties, including the Nepali Congress, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had assured the CA members that the party would return all the seized land and property by mid-December. However, he has not kept his word.

“The land and houses seized in legitimate manner will be allocated to landless peasants in a judicial way,” Rayamajhi said, adding, “The land and houses seized illegitimately can be returned.” He, however, did not elaborate what the legitimate and illegitimate ways were. He said the property amassed by the landowners in the Tarai, without making any investment, was impossible to return.

Rayamajhi also said the Young Communist League would not be dissolved in any case.”The party has chalked out a plan to have the YCL, People’s Liberation Army and Nepal

Army work in tendem to carry out development works in the country,” he said.

He also claimed that only a few people, who are claiming themselves as so-called displaced, were genuine. “The so-called displaced people will be categorised and only the people, who were really displaced, can return home. Others will be punished,” he warned.
