‘Nepal-Bhutan ties may be jeopardised’

Kathmandu, November 5:

A member of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Committee, Chakra Prasad

Bastola, today warned that diplomatic relations between Nepal and Bhutan may be jeopardised if Bhutan doesn’t show flexibility in resolving the Bhutanese refugee problem.

Interpreting a recent remark that “Nepal will hold a final dialogue with Bhutan” made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, KP Sharma Oli, Bastola said: “There is a possibility of breaking Nepal-Bhutan bilateral relations if Bhutan doesn’t cooperate this time.”

He said this while discussing on the issue at the committee’s meeting today. Bhutanese refugee leaders were also present in the meeting. Nepalese and Bhutanese officials are scheduled to meet on November 20-21.
