‘TRC must for ending transition’

BARDIYA: Various human rights activists today underlined the need of early formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission as the peace process could not be concluded meaningfully without it.

OHCHR representative Federick Rawski said the TRC should be made a accountable commission. Citing that many commissions formed in the past had been ineffective, he said this one had to be different than others.

INSEC president Subodh Pyakurel said the police intelligence needed to be empowered for the success of such a commission.

Speaking at a regional meeting in Bardiya, British Embassy staffer Hinesh Rajani said the international community was ready to assist Nepal in the peace process and state restructuring, adding that the formation of the TRC should not be delayed. "Delay in the formation of the commission will deny victims justice," he reasoned.
