Agitating jailbirds defer strike
Rajbiraj, October 6:
Inmates of the Saptari jail, who have been on a fast-unto-death demanding general amnesty for the past 11 days, today suspended their strike putting eight more demands.
They have demanded that the special session of the parliament slated for Thursday should concede their demands.
Their demands include implementing the agreement reached among the local administration, seven parties and the prisoners; providing Dashain allowance to them; painting the jail, making provision of smoke-free kitchen and good management of sewage and drinking water in the jail.
The strike was suspended after the Chief District Officer (CDO) and the prisoners held a discussion in this connection today.
CDO Ganesh Bahadur Khatri, during the discussion, assured the agitating prisoners of meeting their demands if they are met at the local level and also committed to inform the Home Ministry about their demand of the general amnesty.
