AIDS death in Dailekh

Dailekh, August 14:

Twenty-five-year-old Purna Kala Thapa of Dailekh’s Nangle Katuwal-2 died of HIV/AIDS yesterday, Khaga Bahadur Thapa, a local, said.

Her 38-year-old husband, Nanda Bahadur Thapa had died of AIDS last month. Santosh Rawal, president of Panchakoshi Plus, an organisation working for the welfare of AIDS victims, said son and two daughters of the Thapas had also been infected.

Chief of the Dailekh public health office Dr Guna Raj Agasti said AIDS has killed 30 people so far in Sigaudi village development committee.

Sixty per cent of those who underwent blood test in Sigaudi, Sahasain and Rakam village development committees were found to be infected with HIV. Of them, 120 HIV-infected are in contact with the health office.
