‘Amend acts to bar govt officials’
KATHMANDU, July 16
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Thursday wrote to the Ministry of Law and Justice telling it to bar officers of government-owned corporations from holding permanent residence cards.
The government’s move comes two days after President Ram Baran Yadav authenticated the Civil Service Act, 1993 (Fourth Amendment) Act that bars civil servants from holding permanent residence cards and diversity visa of other countries.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister on Thursday wrote to the Ministry of Law, Justice, Constituent Assembly and Parliamentary Affairs telling it to make similar amendments in Acts that govern government-owned corporations and other public officers.
If such amendments are made it will bar other public officers including the ministers with foreign PR cards from holding public office in Nepal.
Minister of General Administration Lalbabu Pandit said yesterday that PR and diversity visa holding civil servants would be sacked if they did not voluntarily renounce their PR cards within the next 60 days.
