‘An act of vengeance’

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalist Himalmedia Chapter has issued a release terming the arrest of Kanak Mani Dixit as CIAA’s vengeful act.

The FNJ has stated that he was put in the cell despite having elevated blood pressure but CIAA Chief Lokman Singh Karki's press coordinator Bhawani Subedi said the CIAA took him under custody only after the medical team said that Dixit’s health condition was normal.

The Himalmedia Chapter of FNJ has said that Dixit had been critical in his regular columns of the appointment of Lokman Singh Karki to head the CIAA three years ago.

The high-level Rayamajhi Commission had accused Karki of being involved as chief secretary in crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in the last days of King Gyanendra’s rule exactly 10 years ago.

The chapter has condemned the action taken by the CIAA “against a journalist and a pro-democracy and human rights activist.” “We demand an immediate end to his physical and psychological harassment.

Dixit should be released unconditionally forthwith,” it added.
