ITAHARI: Irate students this morning vandalised and torched furniture in the Itahari based Janata Campus, charging that the campus was closed on the threshold of examination.
Students said when they reached the campus they saw a notice issued by agitating lecturers that the campus was closed. The Police and fire engines helped douse the fire. The students also gheraoed the house of Medani Sitaula, president of the campus management committee, accusing him of irresponsibility even as their studies were being hampered.
However, the students returned home after Situala promised that the problem would be settled through dialogue. The students have warned of protests in case the campus administration failed to resume classes within two days.
The classes have frequently been obstructed since the March 18 FSU election. Nepal Students Union and ANNISU-R had also padlocked the campus for 10 days accusing the election committee of irregularities during vote count.
Even after the lockout, the students had decided to bar lecturers of the election committee from entering the campus premises. The recent debate erupted after some students misbehaved with four lecturers.
Meanwhile, accusing the students of manhandling the lecturers of Janata Campus on Sunday, lecturers in Sunsari district have decided to boycott classes from Monday.
The lecturers have warned that they would continue their protest programmes until they were not ensured a secure environment.
