ANNISU-R beats up chief

BHOJPUR: Cadres of All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary, affiliated to Unified CPN-Maoist, beat up Parvat Kumar Rai, chief of Bhojpur Multiple Campus, here in the district headquarters today.

The Maoist students attacked the campus chief while he was in his office. "A team of ANNISU-R students led by their district chairman thrashed Rai with bamboo sticks," according to police. However, no one has been arrested in connection with the attack. The police said they were still "searching" the attackers.

He sustained serious injuries on his head. He is undergoing treatment at Bhojpur District Hospital. "His wound had to be stitched in 18 places as it was big," according to the hospital source.

Demanding resignation of Rai, the Maoist students have been staging protests from the past few weeks. They alleged that he was involved in irregularities while appointing staffers in the campus recently.
