Another pact must for republic: Badal

Dharan, July 6:

Senior Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa, Badal, today underscored the need for another agreement among the eight political parties for the establishment of a federal republic.

Addressing a seminar on ‘Role of health workers in the new Nepal,’

organised by the All Nepal Public Health Workers’ Association (ANPHWA) at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences here, Badal said, “The CPN-Maoist has been actively working for the establishment of a republic for a long time, but in vain. There is a need to form a republican front,” he said.

Referring to a statement made by Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on a “baby king”, he said, “The Maoists are committed to continuing their agitation until the establishment of a republic.”

“If the constituent assembly (CA) polls do not usher in a republic, we will continue to stage agitations for one. This is our party’s view,” he said.

Insisting that different forces are actively hatching conspiracies to disrupt the constituent assembly elections, Badal who is also in-charge of the Maoist eastern command, said, “Regressive forces are trying to disrupt the constituent assembly poll by killing people. The Tarai agitation is an example of this,” he said.
