Araniko highway security beefed up

Kavre, October 3:

The Kavre District Police Office (DPO) has tightened security along the Araniko highway. The move comes at a time when the highway is witnessing a spurt in the incidents of loot.

The DPO, organising a press conference in Dhulikhel today, said security had been tightened in major markets along the highway.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhutiraj Pandey said patrolling teams were deployed throughout the day in the markets and the highway.

We have taken action against at least 12 youths, who were involved in looting businessmen at night, Pandey said.

We have begun investigation into complaints that have accused officers of police posts along the highway of collecting money from goat and buffalo traders, he said.

“Action will be taken against the officers if they are found guilty,” Pandey further said.

There are police posts in Dolalaghat, Panchkhal, Khawa, Banepa and Sanga along the highway.

Meanwhile, 835 bottles of poisonous liquor sophie seized by the Dolalghat police post, the Panchkhal police post and the Bhagawatisthan Area Police Office were destroyed in the presence of journalists in Kavre District Police Office today.
