Army deployed in riot-hit zones

Kathmandu, August 24

Home Minister Bamdev Gautam today told the Legislature-Parliament that the government had decided to deploy Nepali Army at several places in the country. The government had allowed the District Administration Office to deploy army as per the Local Administration Act, declaring tense areas ‘riot-hit zone’, he said.

Addressing the Parliament session, Gautam said the meeting of the National Security Committee held following the incident in Tikapur decided to deploy the Nepali Army because Nepal Police and Armed Police Force had failed to maintain peace.

Gautam briefed the Parliament about developments in Tikapur of Kailali, Gaur of Rautahat and Malangwa of Sarlahi, where protesters turned violent. Blocking the roads with boulders, the protesters had entered the restricted areas and began vandalising government offices, he added.
