Army merger impossible sans NC’s nod: Minister
Bara, November 22:
Minister for Health and Population Girirajmani Pokharel today said the People’s Liberation Army combatants could not be merged into Nepal Army if the Nepali Congress was opposed to it.
He was addressing the third district assembly of Janamorcha Nepal.
Stating that the Nepali Congress should be included in the Special Committee formed for integrating the armies, he said, “Without NC’s consensus, merger of the armies is impossible.”
The minister said all the parties were working out a consensus for the post of vice-chairperson in the Constituent Assembly.
Conceding that Nepal’s economic and political bases had been determined by the powerful countries like America and India, Minister Pokharel said such a situation would end with the formation of the new constitution.
Stating that criminal activities, taking place in different parts of Tarai in the guise of politics, would never be acceptable to the government, Pokharel said attempts were being made to rope in all Madhes-based political forces in the process to draft the constitution.
