Nearly 2,000 children in 8 districts identified with visual defects

CHITWAN: As many as 1,952 children from different parts of eight districts in the country have been diagnosed with visual defects.

Bharatpur Eye Hospital in the past 11 months had conducted eye check-up camps for children of 144 schools in Chitwan, Bara, Parsa, Makawanpur, Nawalpur, Tanahu, Gorkha and Dhading districts.

A total of 67,648 children underwent eye check-ups during the camps.

The findings show that a large number of children are suffering from visual defects, without having the knowledge of the same. During the camps, glasses were distributed to children who required them.

Likewise, school teachers were also given classes on eye health and its importance so as to seek their help in finding out children with eye problems and treat them on time, said hospital manager Daya Shankar Chaudhary.
