Arrested NC man out, foul play suspected

Birgunj, May 26:

Mystery surrounds the case of Chhattu Prasad Yadav after police released him the next day after he was arrested in possession of weapon.

Yadav, who is reported to be the personal assistant of Bara CA member from Nepali Congress

Umakant Chaudhary, was arrested last week in possession of a country-made pistol and several rounds of ammunition from Murli Chowk of Birgunj.

When journalists raised a hue and cry over his release, police arrested Yadav again and presented him during a press meet.

DSP Hari Krishna Khand of Parsa district police office said Yadav was released after the public prosecutor’s office decided that the charges against him could not be substantiated.

A police officer said Yadav was released without any action due to political pressure. Parsa district president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Shatrughan Nepal said Yadav was sent straight to the court without necessary paperwork due to political pressure.

Joint public prosecutor Ram Hari Sharma said the police had mentioned in their chargesheet

that no weapon was found from Yadav and that as such he could not be brought to book.
