Thirteen Maoist cadres, including Sherpa and Purna Bhujel, abducted and thrashed UML cadres Bhabindra Rai and Shankar Adhikari on May 6 for not voting for the Maoists.
The Maoist cadres had also sought Rs 50,000 from Adhikari.
Adhikari’s wife Bhawana had reached the CPN-Maoist Sankhuwasabha district office with the money fearing that the Maoists would kill her husband if she failed to meet their demand.
The Maoists had taken some Rs 1,000 from abducted Adhikary and had demanded some

The Maoists, however, refused to take the money and said they would take the money after investigating into the case, UML district member Bharat Khatri said. Condition of Adhikari, who was hurt in the eyes, and Rai, whose leg was broken, is said to be critical.
The injured are undergoing treatment in Primary Health Post in Chainpur and a case will be filed against those involved in the incident, Khatri said.
The situation in the district is tense after the incident and Khatri accused the police and the administration of not taking enough security measures.
