Attack on teacher triggers three-day schools’ closure

The Nepal Teachers’ Union (NTU) shut down all government schools for three days in the district from today.

The agitating union members are protesting the attack on Nirmala Thasineku, headmistress, Panna Devi Kanya Secondary School. The institution is located at Kalaiya.

“The union’s district executive committee unanimously agreed to shutdown all government educational institutions in the district for three days, starting today,” said Bharat Prasad Shah, president, Bara, NTU.

The union members also took out a rally in Kalaiya today.

It started from the local Sri Tri Chandra School and went around the town. The participants in the procession condemned the worsening law and order situation in the town and demanded arrest of the culprit and compensation for the victim.

A sit-in was also staged at District Administration Office and District Police Office for about half-an-hour. Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the DAO, serving an ultimatum that the guilty must be brought to book by December 30.

Thasineku was shot at by an unidentified person on Thursday.
