AG backs attorneys' protest over High Court appointments

KATHMANDU: Attorney General Raman Kumar Shrestha said he would support the decision of government attorneys to boycott hearing in protest of the recent appointments in the High Courts.

Speaking with journalists at the Reporters' Club Nepal in the Capital today, Shrestha said the conclusion that the decision on appointment did not rightly include the government attorneys was right.

The government lawyers have begun boycotting benches from today demanding a review on the Judicial Council decision.

Among 80 newly appointed judges, only one was from among the government attorneys.

"The decision has neglected government lawyers," he said, "Only one was picked while there were nine attorneys interested."

Meanwhile, the legal advisor to the government also demanded that the government increase facilities for government lawyers.
