'Autonomous state against party'
KATHMANDU: Politburo member of UCPN-Maoist Janardan Sharma 'Prabhakar' today said that declaration of Kirant autonomous state by his party in Khotang district was against the party's official policy.
The Maoists' politburo member Gopal Kiranti, who is also the coordinator of the party's Kirant State People's Movement Committee, had made the announcement of autonomous state yesterday.
Speaking at Reporters' Club, Prabhakar said, "Party chairman Prachanda had directed Kiranti not to make such an announcement since the party had already decided to postpone such programme." He, however, did not divulge as to what sort of action the party would take against Kiranti for flouting the party policy.
Prabhakar also blamed the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML for trying to impose presidential rule in the country. "We dare them (NC and UML) to impose the presidential rule."
He slammed the recent statements made by some ministers about mobilising the army to quell the Maoists' agitation. "They cannot deploy army against us. Instead, we might mobilise army against them."
Prabhakar further added that NC and UML were not in favour of drafting the constitution on time as they were dillydallying submitting their concept papers at the Constituent Assembly.
He underscored the need of fresh commitment on the Comprehensive Peace Accord signed in 2006.
